2008 Minor Team of the Year - The Surrey Storm 90A Midget "A" Girls team is the most prolific winning team in Surrey Storm's history. They have won BC Provincial Gold as an "A" team in the Squirt, Peewee, Bantam and Midget categories, Silver at Westerns as Peewee, Silver at Nationals as Peewee, Gold and Silver at Nationals as Bantam, Gold and Bronze at Nationals as Midget, Canada Cup Showcase Silver as Bantam and Canada Cup Futures Gold as Midget.

In the 2008 season, the team record was 72-5-1 with only 2 of the losses to Canadian teams. 9 of the players have received scholarships, 2 to Canadian Universities and 7 to American Universities. A worthy recipient for the Minor Team of the Year to be sure, Surrey Storm 90A Midget Girls.

It is the intention of the Surrey Storm Softball Association Rep system to represent Softball BC District 7 and the City of Surrey at the highest level of softball available. In keeping with our primary and most important principle of always playing and demonstrating the utmost of honesty, integrity and fair play, Storm players will always strive to improve and develop as athletes and ballplayers. Annually through an open, fair, competitive and accountable tryout process, we will field the best possible team at each level. Most importantly by example, we will lead our players to be the best that they can be. We will be playing at a competitive level and finding ways and sharing ideas to win and be successful --- but, most importantly our philosophy of teamwork and unselfish co-operation with our fellow teammates will stand out.

At this level we are expected to win and we are required to make a full commitment to make this a fun and rewarding experience for our players. Rep level softball give players the opportunity to play in an environment that demands commitment to skill development and a desire to be competitive at a higher level than that offered in house leagues. Surrey Storm is formally supported by the Cloverdale Minor Softball Association, the Newton Girls Softball Association and Whalley Minor Fastball Association as their Rep Softball program. Nevertheless Surrey Storm will accept registrations from any player in District 7 who wishes to participate in our program.

Rep softball is designed to give ball players the opportunity to grow their skills against top level competition. Practices are an important part of this process and Rep teams practice up to two times per week in addition to their regularly scheduled games. As well as the time commitment involved in practices, games and tournaments, an additional financial obligation is also part of Rep softball. This extra money is necessary to support the cost of equipment, team uniforms, umpire fees, diamond rental and tournament entry fees to name a few. This extra cost should not be a deterrent to those interested in playing Rep softball. In previous years, players, coaches, parents and other community members have raised funds through corporate sponsorships, donations and fundraising efforts so that the cost to the player has been kept to a minimum.

Consider becoming involved with a Rep team next season – as a player, assistant coach, or sponsor. Keep checking back for up-to-date information and contacts.

Rep teams are made up of players who are "selected" from those players interested in playing at a more competitive level. Surrey Storm endeavours to encourage as many players as possible to consider playing at the competitive level. Those involved in the selection process focus on instruction and development during the selection process, so that players learn new skills and make new friends in the process, and so that no player needs to feel disappointed if a team is not available that year. A typical selection camp might, for example, involve 20 or 30 girls at a gymnasium, with various stations at which players would receive instruction about skills that are part of the game (hitting, catching, throwing, pitching). In the course of this those involved in team selection would both teach and observe.

Rep teams play an interlocking schedule with neighboring Districts. The interlocking schedule is set at a pre-season coaches meeting each year. Normally rep teams play a season that is slightly longer than house teams, from early April to early July.
