July 11-13th, 2008 - Storm 90A are the 2008 Midget A Provincial Champions!
Congratulations go to Storm 90A, who against the odds yesterday pulled out an upset and won the GOLD. Going into the final they had to beat Renegades 89 twice to win GOLD, after losing to them earlier in the day this seemed almost impossible.
It was the top of the 7th Inning, Storm was down 4-3 and the words of Coach Kim to "get me a run" worked. The girls went out and scored 4 runs to win the game 7-4. It was a great team effort, all of those girls pulled together and made it happen!

Storm 97 achieved one of its goals due to an outstanding team effort. Notable contributions from pitcher Charlotte NcNair and catcher Bethany Koschel.
Storm 97 faced Heat 97 in the fourth round robin game. Building on their big win over the 96 WR Renegades, the team jumped out to a quick start and never looked back. Storm squeezed past Centennial Eagles in the quarter-finals; then beat a terrific team, the Canby Wildcats in the semi-finals before running out of gas and falling to Thunder in the Championship Final. Great job girls!!
June 28-29th, 2008 - Storm 91A, Seattle Tournament Champions!
June 28-29th, 2008 - 97B was in the Holden Vancouver Tournament this past weekend and took 4th place. Prayers were not answered this time but there were some exciting moments. Danielle Kelly had a Grand Slam home run which definately started off the day well. She was chosen MVP for that game. Jesse Goddard/Skoyen was the MVP in the second game and Shelby Scanks was MVP in the third game. Rhianna Dunlop was awarded a well deserved "Spirit Award" donated by one of the parents of the team. For all her cheering and upbeat energy and dedication to the team over the weekend she got a basketful of goodies. What a great bunch of girls! They were very much a team and should be very proud of themselves!
June 20-22, 2008 - District Champions!! This year's Cardiac Kids - Storm 93B - had a heart stopping District tournament on the weekend! The team is playing its best ball of the season as they prepare for the upcoming District Playoffs this coming weekend. In Sunday’s semi-final action, Storm combined error-free defense with timely hits and aggressive base running to down the Nanaimo Diamonds 6 – 3. In the Championship Final, Storm faced the Nanaimo Breakers (who are an allstar team with girls from Nanaimo, Parksville and Port Alberni) and used their big bats to swat down the powerful breakers. Well done girls!!
May 16-19th, 2008 - On Friday May 16th, Surrey Storm 97A faced the White Rock Renegades 97A for their first of four round robin games. The Renegades came out with a fast start taking a 4-1 lead after the 1st inning. Pitcher Michaela Moore with strong fielding by Tanis Cuthbert (2nd base), Bethany Koschel (Catcher), and Laura Baldry (3rd base) held them to one run at the top of the 2nd inning. Storm turned up the offence with strong hitting by Michaela Moore, Bethany Koschel, Tea Graaf, and Janey Thomas. With bases loaded, Laura lined a solid hit out to centre field for a stand up triple to move the runners around the bases to tie the game. In the last inning of the game, clutch hitting by Vanessa Patrignani, Taylor Uyeno, Daniella Vilio, Katherine Schouten, and Raelyn Radovich pushed Storm ahead to take a 9-6 lead into the top of the 4th inning. Closing pitcher, Charlotte McNair struck out the last three batters to secure the win.
Storm 97A then battled hard against the older 96A teams (Langley Fusion and Richmond Islanders) on Saturday to move to a 1-2 record. Early Sunday morning, Storm played Fusion 97A. After 2 innings, Storm earned a 2 run lead with Tanis Cuthbert and Raelyn Radovich crossing the plate before going into the top of the 3rd inning. Team Fusion woke up and stunned the Storm team by earning 5 runs to eventually defeat Storm 7-2.
After completing the round robin with a 1-3 record, Storm faced the Richmond Islanders 97A for their first playoff game. As home team, Storm and Islanders exchanged runs over three innings of play. But going into the bottom of last inning down 12-8 with time running out, Storm dug down with players Raelyn Radovich, Tanis Cuthbert, Vanessa Patrignani, and Taylor Uyeno finding a way to get around the bases to tie the game. With one out, Shaelyn Olgilvie, Bethany Koschel, and Katherine Schouten loaded the bases. Janey Thomas stepped into the batter box with the winning run on third. After fouling off the first pitch, Janey popped up with an infield fly, however, Katherine charged home after the tag and slid under the throw to home to steal a 13-12 come-back win.
With the victory, Storm moved on to play the 1st placed team in the tournament - Richmond Islander 96A for the playoff round. Storm 97A team challenged the Islanders but fell short after playing their 3rd game of the day, taking them into the consolation round to play the Victoria Island Devils 96/97 team. Storm played hard through the rain, winning 11-3 with great hitting, pitching and a strong defence which included a great catch in left field by Tea Graaf. The win earned Storm 97A 5/6th place overall in the tournament which included 6 second year teams. Overall, a great success for their first tournament as a first year Squirt team!
May 9-11th, 2008 - The Storm 90A team won the gold medal at the recent North Delta tournament! They played a total of 4 games in the round robin, placed 1st. They won their semi-final game with Heat 91 which took them to the final against the Heat 90A team. They were down 2-3 at the bottom of the 7th, Storm 90A tied it up with a great suicide squeeze play at home that also left two runners on base. With only one out, Charlotte Dolan drove a line drive out to the gap in right centre field to bring in the winning run. It was a game that they thought they were not going to win, but perseverance by the team and the coach proves you should never give up until the last out!
May 2-4th, 2008 - Storm 95A had a great weekend at Sullivan Park, May 2nd, 3rd & 4th. Our girls walloped Heat 95, 11 – 7 on Friday night; then shocked the eventual tournament Champion Fusion 94, 7 – 6; before dismantling Renegades 95, 10 -2. The girls finished the round robin portion of the tourney early Sunday morning with a 5 – 1 loss to Ridge Meadows 95, as the girls made it to the park, but forgot to wake up their bats! Their 3 – 1 record placed them as the 2nd seed heading in to the playoff round.
In Semi-Final action, our girls fell to Richmond 94, 4 – 0; pitting Storm 95 in the Consolation Final against the only team that beat them in the round robin, Ridge Meadows 95. Revenge was sweet as our girls pounded the ball all afternoon in an 8 – 1 romp! All of the girls’ hard work is really beginning to show. Great job Storm ’95A!
April 2008 - Surrey Storm 91B places second in Newton Girls Softball Association's Midget B tournament. The final game was a well played game that was tied at 4 going into the last inning when the previously undefeated Abbotsford Outlaws 89 went ahead for good. Great job!
April 25-27th, 2008 - Storm 96A is very proud of their 2nd place finish at the Delta Heat tournament April 25-27 2008. We started the tournament with 1 of our 3 regular pitchers injured, but with the help of our #4 pitcher and a lot of team spirit we were very competitive!
April 19-20th, 2008 - On the weekend of April 19th and 20th, 2008, Storm 95A and Storm 93B hit the I-5 together to compete in separate tournaments at Seattle’s Combat Series Qualifier held at Riverview Playfields. Everyone survived the snow flurries on both Saturday and Sunday, as well as a nasty blizzard on Friday night’s drive down.
Maury McCausland’s 95A’s struggled to find consistency, but battled hard and finished 5th in Round Robin play. Their bats woke up in the quarter finals, as our girls trounced the Gladiators; before eventually falling to the tournament champion Acers in a hard fought semi final game.
Mike McDonald’s 93B’s had only one loss in Round Robin play finishing 2nd in the standings; but lost a 5-4 heartbreaker to the Snohomish Shock in their quarter final game. When pressed for answers following their disappointing early exit, Assistant Coach Joel Morrell pointed out that fellow Assistant Coach Dan Anderson may look an awful lot like his father (MLB’s legendary Hall of Fame Manager ‘Sparky’ Anderson), but that was where the genetics stopped! At press time, Dan Anderson was still manning the first base coaches box…
The highlight of the weekend for this team was their annual talent show, where the kids and parents all participated. Great job Storm!
April 18-20th, 2008 - Storm 97B won the Bronze medal at their tournament in Abbotsford! They played while it was snowing Friday night. The parents were bundled to the max all weekend and were still freezing in that cold wind. The bats were like ice and to hit a ball was painful but the girls had a great time bonding and hanging out and were real troupers. Amazing how the pitchers pitched all weekend with frozen hands! All for the love of the game!
April 16th, 2008 - Storm 91B started off the season playing two icebreakers; Softball City and North Delta. The girls played outstanding in both tournaments. They outscored the opposition by over 20 runs without losing in Softball City and only lost once in North Delta. Great job ladies!
April 4th - 6th, 2008 - Storm 92B "thundered" through the "Thunder in the City" tournament at Softball City! A very entertaining pre-season icebreaker, sitting down the Poco Ravens 10 - 3, and the Vancouver Wildcats 12 - 7. 92B finished the weekend with a very satisfying 3 wins and 1 loss. Good job girls!
April 4th - 6th, 2008 - Storm 93B kicked off the season with a 3 - 1 record at Softball City's Icebreaker. The girls beat North Van '92, 10 - 7; White Rock Thunder, 13 - 2; and Abbotsford '93, 8-6; before losing to Port Coquitlam 11 - 7. Well done 93B!!
April 4th - 6th, 2008 - Storm 95A had an excellent tournament this weekend at the North Delta Icebreaker. The girls battled very hard against 4 older teams and served notice that they will be a team to be reckoned with by the end of the season. Storm 95 pushed the Fusion '94 team to the brink in a 2 run loss, then had the Islanders '94 on the ropes and were leading them before the game was called due to time, reverting back to the previous innings score, and another 2 run loss. They continued to battle at every plate appearance and scrap in the field against Heat '94 and our own Storm '94, but fell short all the same... well done girls!!
March 29th - 30th, 2008 - Storm 95A had a great weekend at the Renegades Icebreaker tournament at Softball City! They survived the wind and cold weather, and ended up with a record of 3 wins and one tie. The girls hit extremely well and played with a ton of enthusiasm. Well done Storm 95A!!
March 15th - 16th, 2008 - Surrey Storm 95A attempted to play their first tournament of the season in Marysville, Washington this weekend, but due rainy conditions, the tournament was cancelled. On Sunday, the girls played well in (3) exhibition games against teams 2 years older; but the weekend was highlighted by some great team building events to welcome 6 new players and their families to this years team. This team is definitely looking forward to an awesome season of ball!
AGM - Sunday Oct 26 from 7pm to 9pm at the Cloverdale Meeting Room!
