Storm Gingerbread night Christmas 2017
On Dec 22, 2017 Storm invited all our players out to take part in what we hope will be our first annual Gingerbread House making competition.
With so many talented and seasoned competitors in the club, we knew that the competition would be stiff between the teams, but, we had a surprise for the girls. They were competing in teams, but, not their teams. No, we randomly assigned them to new teams made up of other players, some older, some younger.
The girls all quickly bonded within their new teams & before long we had 12 gingerbread houses, and, 12 sets of young women who had made themselves new friends. With prizes for the top three teams and one extra set of prizes for the team that showed the highest degree of perseverance (or literally, "stick to it mess") the girls all came away with full tummies (mmm... totally unhealthy pizza - hey, it is the off season you know), candy bags (we all know how popular candy bags are in ball parks).
The girls all got the chance to meet their executive members and to hear a bit about Storm's vision to work together as one club and not a collection of individual teams.
The event was capped of with ten minutes of unbridled messy chaos as the girls were again split into two teams where they then engaged in a game of balloon popping mayhem bringing the Christmas holiday into effect with a bang, or, about 70 bangs.
Thank you to the many volunteers who worked tirelessly to put this event on, with executive member Corry Clark, leading the charge. Thanks to Storm's Executive & the many parents and coaches who stayed to help clean up balloon fragments.
And last but not least, special thanks to MVP Athletics for their donation towards our prizes.
We're looking forward to having this event again next year!
