PHOENIX, ARIZONA USA – Emily Manhao, Outfielder 1998A – South Mountain College Cougars, NJCAA Div 2.

The Surrey Storm organization wishes to congratulate Outfielder – Emily Manhao of Surrey BC, from the Surrey Storm 1998A midget team who has officially signed with the South Mountain Cougars Softball team.  Emily played minor ball for the Cloverdale Minor Softball Association, and the Surrey Storm 1998A.  She is one of the original players for the team, having started with Storm 98A back in first year U12 and playing all the way to midget, quite an accomplishment.  All these years she has played for the Storm 98A team and has had much success.   Emily is a silver and two time bronze medalist from the Canadian National Softball Championship and BC Provincials, including bronze the last two years in a row at Nationals.  She is also a Gold Medalist with the Team BC at the Western Canadian Summer Games.  In 2014 Emily was named top batter with a .600 average at the Canadian National Championships.  During her time with Storm, Emily demonstrated her hard work, competitiveness and superb hitting skills, resulting in her signing with the South Mountain Cougars Softball team.  Over the past number of years she had the opportunity to partake in many tournaments throughout Canada and the USA, and was successfully recruited out of Arizona this past season.

Emily has very much enjoyed playing for the Storm organization.  She is looking forward to playing for the Cougars under Head Coach Christa Pfeninger.  She is excited for the new challenge it will bring in Arizona and the continuation of her development as a college softball player.  Emily is thankful to all her teammates, coaches and parents for their support and in their encouragement to pursue her goal of playing softball at the this level.  Emily will be graduating from Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary School and will be moving to Arizona in early August to attend her new school and start with her new team.  She will be enrolled in the Applied Sciences in Information Technology – Web and Graphic Design program at SMCC.

Emily would also specifically like to thank her Head Coach Roger Boily for all the time and effort he has put into the Storm 1998A team over the years and for his encouragement to become the player she is today.  She is extremely appreciative for his sharing his love for the sport and in helping her reach the next level.  And because “everything is catchable”.

The Surrey Storm organization wishes Emily the very best and continued success in her softball and schooling as she joins the South Mountain Cougars this coming summer.

Way to go Emily!
